Job Description
SSA is seeking experienced Technical Directors for freelance work across NSW's Premier Venues including SCG, Accor Stadium, Allianz Stadium, CommBank Stadium, Newcastle, and Wollongong. Work on tier-1 events including NRL (Grand Final, State of Origin, weekly fixtures), AFL (Sydney Swans), international cricket and rugby, and major concerts. Regular freelance opportunities available with advance scheduling – know your commitments weeks/months ahead rather than last-minute callouts.
As Technical Director, you’ll lead broadcast and production suite operations, manage technical crew, coordinate multi-camera setups, troubleshoot signal flow issues, and ensure seamless delivery of live events. You'll work with cutting-edge broadcast infrastructure including LED display systems, IPTV distribution, and replay operations across multiple venues. This is hands-on technical leadership – you'll be in the production suite directing operations, not just supervising from a distance.
Required Experience: Minimum 3 years in live sports or entertainment broadcasting with proven Technical Director or senior technical operator experience. Strong understanding of signal flow, multi-view systems, camera operations, and live production workflows. Must have NSW-based availability and own transport.
Desirable Technical Experience: Ross Carbonite Vision Mixers, Ross Ultrix Video Distribution Platforms, Ross NK Routers, Grass Valley Vision Mixers, Blackmagic Vision Mixers, vMix, Ross Xpression Graphics, Sony Camera Chains, Riedel Mediorworks, EVS replay systems, Dreamcatcher replay systems, RF Camera Systems, LED display control, and IPTV distribution platforms.
